Moritz Nicolas’ 13 Bundesliga clean sheets in 2025/26 has naturally aroused interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s custodian, but Aston Villa have missed out on an opportunity to sign Die Fohlen’s No.1 for a cut-price.
According to a report by Bild, Nicolas’ €12m release clause expired at the beginning of the week. But despite a preference to keep Nicolas, who while envisioning a future at Borussia-Park as a leader, is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League. Gladbach themselves aren’t ruling out a departure after the expiry of his exit clause, either, should they receive a considerable offer for their No.1 goalkeeper.
Gladbach’s willingness to allow Nicolas to depart should an exorbitant offer comes in is also due to Daniel Batz’ arrival from Mainz. Only Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel (72.4%) registered a better save percentage than Batz (72.2%), who bettered Nicolas’ 71.8%.
