When can Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title?

Bayer Leverkusen moved closer to securing their first ever Bundesliga title following their 2-1 comeback win against Hoffenheim on Saturday. But when is the earliest that Xabi Alonso’s side can be crowned champions?

With Bayern Munich’s Klassiker defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga topspiel, Bayer Leverkusen now sit 13 points clear of their league rivals. That means Bayer need just nine points to be named Bundesliga winners, meaning that Leverkusen could possibly bag the title in three weeks against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park.

But if Bayern Munich drop points in their upcoming Bundesliga games against Heidenheim or FC Köln, Leverkusen’s title can be secured earlier. Should Bayern lose and Leverkusen win, Alonso’s side can win the title on matchday 29 against Werder Bremen.

A record points haul for Bayer Leverkusen?

With 73 points after 27 games, Bayer Leverkusen have already surpassed their previous club record from the 1999/2000 season. And with 21 points still up for grabs, Alonso’s side could break the all-time Bundesliga points record set by Bayern Munich in the 2012/13 season where they finished the Bundesliga campaign with 91 points.

Unbeaten in 39 games across all competitions this season, Leverkusen under the guidance of Alonso has truly been one of the greatest Bundesliga stories of late.
