“We want the maximum in everything” – Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rolfes wants treble winning season

Bayer Leverkusen clinched their maiden Bundesliga title on Sunday, ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year dominance. And now, sporting director Simon Rolfes has eyes on the Europa League and DFB Pokal.

Die Werkself hold a 2-0 lead against West Ham ahead of tomorrow’s game at the London Stadium. A win will see them advance to the Europa League semi-final as they look to go the distance, something they couldn’t do last season after losing to AS Roma in the semi-finals. But not only that, Leverkusen also have a place in the DFB Pokal final after beating neighbouring 2. Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf.

In what’s already a historic season in the club’s season, it could still get better.

Speaking on the possibility of a treble winning season, Rolfes said: “We want the maximum in everything, we’re already in the cup final. And the Europa League was also a cornerstone for the championship.

“Last year we were in the semi-finals against Roma, even though it ended in disappointment. We gained a lot of strength from saying, okay, if we get the chance to get to the final again, we want to take it. We want to take the next step into the semi-finals. We’re in a good mood, we’re in good shape and we’re confident. There’s no reason to be hesitant about it.”
