Preview: Union Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund

On Saturday afternoon Union Berlin will host Borussia Dortmund in which managers Nenad Bjelica and Edin Terzic will face each other for the first time.

After a very difficult first half of the season, Union Berlin have certainly managed to improve since the start of 2024 and are gaining positive results under manager Nend Bjelica.

Last week they drew 2-2 against Heidenheim which means that they have now collected 18 points in the 11 games that Bjelica has been in charge for.

With early fears that the club may face relegation, they are now eight points clear of the drop and look set to stay in the Bundesliga, with their performances improving every week.

Last week Borussia Dortmund suffered a 3-2 loss to Hoffenheim, a team in which they have struggling against in the past on multiple occasions.

They now currently sit in 4th place in the league table and are just one point ahead of 5th placed RB Leipzig.

Whenever these two sides have met it has been an entertaining fixture with plenty of goals scored.

In the nine matches that have been played between these two teams, a massive 34 goals have been scored.

Team News

Union Berlin will be without Robin Gosens as he was booked last week and will miss out through suspension.

Apart from this it seems that Bjelica will have a fully fit squad to choose from with Kevin Volland and Diogo Leite returning from suspension.

Borussia Dortmund will be missing their goalkeeper Gregor Kobel for this fixture as he is suffering with an adductor injury.

Felix Nmecha will also be a doubt as he is still building up his fitness following his recovery from injury.

Donyell Malen will miss out through suspension.

The return of Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule though will be a much-needed boost for Dortmund after they have returned from injury and illness.
