“We completely lacked structure.” – Thomas Tuchel reacts to draw against Freiburg

Thomas Tuchel has reacted to Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw against Freiburg on Friday night, which could see the Rekordmeister fall ten points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the race for the Bundesliga title come Sunday evening.

Christian Günter opened the scoring for Freiburg, but Bayern Munich responded well with goals from Mathys Tel and Jamal Musiala.

“We didn’t play well in the first half an hour, we completely lacked structure, we were far too undisciplined and deservedly fell behind,” said Tuchel in his post-match press conference.

“Positionally we didn’t execute our game plan at all. We lost the ball going forward and invited our opponents to counter-attack. We then responded well, had a good second half with plenty of chances, but ultimately we’ve thrown away two points.”

Lucas Höler then secured a point for Freiburg with a goal three minutes from time.

“We could have certainly defended the goal that we conceded a lot better. Apart from that, we completely dominated the second half and created plenty of clear goalscoring opportunities,” added Tuchel.

Bayern Munich host Lazio on Tuesday night in a must-win game. The Rekordmeister face elimination from the Champions League Round of 16 if they’re unable to overturn their 1-0 deficit against the Italian side.

Tuchel’s side then face games against struggling Mainz and Darmstadt before hosting Borussia Dortmund after the international break.
