Official | Sebastian Hoeneß signs new contract at VfB Stuttgart until 2027

Amid speculation on his future, VfB Stuttgart have announced that head coach Sebastian Hoeneß has extended his contract at the club until 2027.

On extending his contract at the club, Hoeneß said: “For me, VfB is a special club. Even as a little boy, I sat here in the stadium and cheered with the VfB. For three years, as a youth player, I also wore the coat of arms myself on my chest about 25 years ago and became German champion with the VfB U17. For me, the VfB means emotion – something very special. I am pleased to have extended my contract with VfB prematurely. Together, we have managed to lead VfB on a good path. Our goal must be to take this path sustainably in order to permanently re-establish VfB in the upper half of the table. It was fun from the beginning to work with this team and the coaching team as well as the entire staff and to experience this fantastic support from our fans. Last but not least, the constructive talks with Alexander Wehrle, Fabian Wohlgemuth and Christian Gentner prompted me to extend my contract prematurely. The exchange between us is characterized by trust and appreciation. My focus is now more than ever on the decisive phase of the current season.”

Hoeneß only took over at Stuttgart just under a year ago, but during this time he has turned the team around from fighting from relegation to competing for a Champions League spot.

What makes the feat even more impressive is the fact that Stuttgart had lost key players in Wataru Endo, Borna Sosa and Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer but the signings of Angelo Stiller and Maximilian Mittelstädt have seemingly slotted into the team.

Recently, Hoeneß has been linked to the Bayern Munich job as an alternative for Xabi Alonso due to his links to the Rekordmeister. Hoeneß was previously a youth coach for Bayern whilst his uncle Uli Hoeneß still plays a major role in the decision-making at the club.
