Ian Maatsen felt a ‘special connection’ upon joining Borussia Dortmund

Ian Maatsen has excelled since his loan move from Chelsea to Borussia Dortmund. The Dutchman has been a mainstay in defence, making the left-back spot his own upon arrival. The 22-year-old put his performances down to being able to settle in with ease at Die Schwarzgelben.

Speaking exclusively to Ruhr Nachrichten, Maatsen said: “As soon as I arrived here, as soon as I had my first training session with the boys, I felt this special connection. Everyone gave me a very warm welcome and I immediately had a good rapport with the staff.”

Since his arrival at Borussia Dortmund, Maatsen has started each of 18 games under Edin Terzic, with last weekend’s 4-1 defeat at RB Leipzig the only game the defender has missed after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.
