“Congratulations to Leverkusen” – Thomas Tuchel concedes Bundesliga title defeat

Thomas Tuchel has conceded defeat in the Bundesliga title race. Bayern Munich’s 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening means the Rekordmeister are now 13 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen with just seven games remaining.

Goals from Karim Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson secured a famous win for Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena, their first in the Bundesliga since April 2014.

Speaking to Sky Germany after Bayern’s defeat, Tuchel said: “Congratulations to Bayer Leverkusen!” before stating that there is “no hope left” for his side to lift the Bundesliga title come May.

It’s a telling sign for Bayern Munich, who were sub-par against Dortmund. Another disjointed performance is one too many for the team that has dominated German football for so long. But with Bayern so far adrift from Leverkusen, it was confirmed in February that Tuchel and Bayern would part ways at the end of the season.

Bayern Munich’s primary candidate, Xabi Alonso, has already confirmed that he will remain in charge of Bayer Leverkusen next season as the Allianz Arena continue to search for their Tuchel replacement.
