Borussia Dortmund to hire Thomas Broich from Hertha Berlin for their academy

Bild and kicker both report that Borussia Dortmund are set to complete the signing of Thomas Broich from Hertha Berlin, who will take up a managerial role in the club’s academy.

Broich held the role of ‘Head of Methodology’ at Hertha which worked on creating a standardised formation throughout the academy, it is likely that Broich could replace current junior coordinator Edwin Boekamp who has been the ‘right-hand man’ of academy director Lars Ricken.

Recently, despite the chaos surrounding the senior side, Hertha have developed a knack of promoting youth players to the senior side. Names such as Maximilian Mittelstädt, Luca Netz and Jessic Ngankam have all came through the Hertha academy to make an appearance for the senior side, however, all have also left the club.

Whilst their time in the 2.Bundesliga this season as seen more and more academy players make appearances with players such as Linus Gechter, Pascal Klemens, Ibrahim Maza, Palko Dardai, Marten Winkler, Derry Scherhant and Bence Dardai all joining Marton Dardai in playing a larger role in the club’s rebuild.

What this should mean for Dortmund is that the pipeline from youth team to senior side should be a easier to follow and players that usually are ignored when it comes to a call up to the senior side could finally have a chance.
