Borussia Dortmund plan for new club structure

When Hans-Joachim Watzke steps down from his role at Borussia Dortmund in 2025, the club plans on adapting to a new structure, according to Sky Germany

Alongside Carsten Cramer (Marketing) and Thomas Treß (Finance), Watzke is one of three managing directors. What’s more, he is also the chairman of the board and is often seen as the face of the club.

However, after 20 years at the club, Watzke is finally calling time of his career. When this happens, BVB aims not to replace the 64-year-old but to take the club into a new structure.

Dortmund are looking to Eintracht Frankfurt’s current structure for inspiration.

The Black and Yellows plan to have three managing directors, all with equal rights. There are also discussions about having a board spokesperson who will represent the club to the outside world.

Frankfurt have been successful with a similar model with Axel Hellmann for several years.

Watzke plans on presenting his plan and future structure proposal to the presidential committee in April.
