As reported by Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer will undergo a medical at Inter Milan later today.
As previously understood, a deal for Inter to sign the Swiss goalkeeper had been all but confirmed after the Italian side had agreed a €6m deal with Bayern. However, now with a medical scheduled for later today, confirmation could be made within the coming hours.
Sommer is expected to sign a three-year deal at the Nerazzurri which will see him remain in Italy until the summer of 2026. Inter manager Simone Inzaghi was the key factor behind the deal, with the head coach keen to establish the Swiss shot-stopper as the club’s new number one.
Despite only signing for the Rekordmeister in January for a fee of €8m from Borussia Mönchengladbach amid Manuel Neuer’s leg break, relations between Sommer and Bayern are still positive. It has always been clear that Neuer would return as the club’s number one and they have allowed the 34-year-old to seek game time.
As for Bayern, they will continue to consider their goalkeeping options after talks broke down with Brentford’s David Raya. With Alexander Nübel still contracted to the club, they could have their future number one already in mind, but relations between the two would have to improve.
