Xavi Simons too expensive for Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig

Sport Bild reports that despite interest from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig in PSV Eindhoven forward Xavi Simons, a transfer to either team is not possible.

The 20-year-old is simply too expensive for both Dortmund and Leipzig and so either team is unable to compete financially with the other European clubs who have an interest in Simons. According to transfermarkt, Simons is currently valued at €40m, having joined PSV on a free transfer from PSG last season.

Simons’ future as PSV is unknown as the 20-year-old has a release clause in his PSV contract valued at €6m, which can only be activated by PSG. The Parisians have activated the clause but the choice is up to Simons if he wants to return to PSG.

In the 20-year-old’s first season in the Eredivisie, Simons finished as the top scorer with 19 goals and nine assists as PSV finished second in the league. However, PSV were able to win the KNVB Beker under former Hamburg striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
