Xavi Simons hits the ground running in the Bundesliga and sets a new RB Leipzig record

Xavi Simons has only been an RB Leipzig player for a matter of weeks, but already the Dutchman has set a new club record. According to Opta, his five goal contributions (two goals, three assists) in his first three Bundesliga games is a new RB Leipzig record, one that no player has achieved before.

Since his arrival from PSG, Simons has hit the ground running at RB Leipzig. Although he failed to register a goal contribution in the club’s 3-2 defeat at RB Leipzig on the opening day, the 20-year-old scored and assisted twice against Stuttgart on MD2, overturning a 1-0 deficit. Against Union Berlin at the weekend, Simons opened up the scoring with a superb curling effort from just outside the area which gave Leipzig the lead, before assisting Benjamin Šeško for his first Bundesliga goal.

Already this season, according to FBRef, Simons is leading the way in Goal-Creating Actions (4) and is ranked second in Europe’s Big 5 European Leagues for Assists per 90 (1.19), second to Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong (1.24).
