With just 12 months remaining on his current deal, Wolfsburg wish to extend the contract of Koen Casteels beyond 2024.
The 31-year-old played all 34 Bundesliga games for Wolfsburg last season, keeping 12 clean sheets. Because of a falling out between Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois and Belgium head coach Domenico Tedesco, Kicker reports that there’s an opportunity for Casteels to become Belgium’s No. 1 at Euro 2024.
So far, Wolfsburg’s Marcel Schäfer hasn’t heard anything on Casteels’ Wolfsburg future, but did confirm that the club would like to extend his contract. Joining from Hoffenheim in 2015, Casteels has been a mainstay in the squad with 248 games across all competitions and 86 clean sheets.
During the closing stages of the 2022/23 season, Casteels stated that he was in no rush to make a decision on his future and showed willingness to extend his deal, but did state: “I’ll let everything come to me, everything is open. I look at everything if something comes up, and if that would be interesting.”
