Wolfsburg target Augsburg striker Mergim Berisha

As reported by Kicker, Wolfsburg have set their sights on Augsburg and German national team striker Mergim Berisha.

The 25-year-old spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at the Fuggerstädter, where he was able to score 10 goals and collect four assists in all competitions. This caught the eye of German national team manager Hansi Flick, who gave Berisha his maiden senior team call-up for friendlies against Peru and Belgium.

With Berisha’s goals helping Augsburg remain in the Bundesliga they took up their purchase option to make the move permanent for €4m. However, the striker has commented on how he wishes to make the next step up in his career with a move this summer.

Wolfsburg are the side known to be interested in the striker after losing Omar Marmoush this summer for free as he joined Eintracht Frankfurt with his contract expiring. Nevertheless, Berisha is one of many names on the list of potential strikers that the Wolves will target with Kevin Volland of AS Monaco supposedly being of interest too.

However, according to Sport Bild, Wolfsburg are one of many German and European clubs to be keen on acquiring Berisha this summer. With the demand for the 25-year-old so high, Augsburg have subsequently labelled a €20m price tag on the striker.

Berisha is also not the only departing striker this summer for the Fuggerstädter, as Ricardo Pepi is set to be sold after a positive season in Holland where he scored 13 goals for FC Groningen. However, they look to cover their departing players with the potential incoming of Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich.
