A risk of tough negotiations between Borussia Dortmund and Ajax for Edson Álvarez

After Borussia Dortmund confirmed Jude Bellingham’s departure, the Bundesliga club are now working on their pursuit of Ajax’s Edson Álvarez as a defensive replacement. But according to Kicker, BVB can expect tough negotiations with the Dutch club, where Sven Mislintat, formerly of Dortmund, is currently working.

Dortmund are expected to reinvest around two-thirds of the €103m plus €30.9m fee that they received from Bellingham’s move to Madrid, with Álvarez expecting to cost around €35m.

Ruhr Nachrichten reported last month that Borussia Dortmund had reached an agreement with Álvarez regarding personal terms, with BVB now negotiating with Ajax.

Álvarez joined Ajax from Club América in 2019 for €15m and has since represented the Dutch club 147 times across all competitions, becoming an integral member of the squad, where he has established himself in defensive-midfield which led to the interest of Chelsea last summer.

With the sale of Bellingham and departures of Mahmoud Dahoud and Raphaël Guerreiro, Dortmund can expect another busy summer as they look to close the gap to Bayern Munich. They’ve already announced the arrival of Ramy Bensebaini on a free transfer after his contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach expired.
