Waldemar Anton does not rule out staying at VfB Stuttgart

Speaking to Kicker, VfB Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton has not ruled out staying at the club despite interest from other Bundesliga clubs.

Recently, the 27-year-old has been linked to Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg as his contract at Stuttgart expires in 2025. Still, despite the interest in other clubs, Anton seems to be committed to the project that is being built at the MHP Arena.

When asked about a potential contract extension, Anton said: “I am very happy to be at VfB and to feel the trust. As long as my family and I are happy, it will be hard to leave VfB.” Kicker also revealed that initial contract extension discussions have already occurred.

Since the departure of not only Wataru Endo but Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer, Anton has taken on a bigger leadership role within the squad, being named captain by Sebastian Hoeneß, whilst also being Stuttgart’s key defender due to his reliability and versatility.

This season, Anton has been a stalwart in Stuttgart’s defence as they currently sit third in the Bundesliga and are amounting to an unlikely challenge for a European spot after fighting relegation last season. The 27-year-old has featured in every single game for VfB this season.
