VfB Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt interested in Red Bull Salzburg’s Sékou Koita

Fabrizio Romano reports that VfB Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in Red Bull Salzburg striker Sékou Koita.

The striker wishes to leave Salzburg in January and has attracted interest from the Bundesliga duo as well as from Lens and several Saudi Arabian clubs. Koita’s contract expires in the summer and so a departure in the winter is seen as the best option.

The Mali international has struggled for game time at the Austrian side mainly due to a long run of injuries as well as the rise of players such as Benjamin Seško and Karim Konaté in recent seasons. The 23 year old has played eight times this season scored three times.

For Stuttgart, Koita would add extra depth at the striking position behind Sehrou Guirassy, however, with Koita also likely to go the Africa Cup of Nations in the new year a move would only make sense if it facilitates a departure of Guirassy in the summer.

While Frankfurt have been actively looking for a replacement for Randal Kolo Muani, Koita is the latest to be linked to the club after it was reported that Frankfurt are in negotiations with Viktoria Plzeň for striker Rafiu Durosinmi
