Two Bundesliga clubs enquire about Southampton’s Paul Onuachu

As reported by Sky Germany, two Bundesliga clubs have expressed an interest to sign Southampton striker Paul Onuachu.

Both Stuttgart and Augsburg are understood to have enquired about the striker’s availability due to Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League. However, both sides may face a stumbling block due to Onuachu’s wage demands which are believed to be around €1.5m per net.

Borussia Mönchengladbach could also enter into the race to sign the Nigerian forward, however, there has been no approach made. Onuachu has made his desire to leave Southampton clear this summer and the Bundesliga appears to be his most likely destination.

Last season the 29-year-old featured eleven times for the Saints in the Premier League, but he failed to register a single goal or assist as the side were relegated to the Championship alongside Leeds United and Leicester City. However, during a three-and-a-half-year spell with Genk in Belgium, Onuachu scored 85 goals in 134 appearances.

With Mergim Berisha looking for a way out of Augsburg this summer combined with the sale of Ricardo Pepi – a move for the 6’7” striker would offer the Bavarian outfit a suitable replacement for their direct style of play. While for Stuttgart, the financial aspect of the signing may prove significantly difficult after their permanent acquisition of Serhou Guirassy.
