Steffen Baumgart believes FC Köln don’t need addtional players despite injuries

FC Köln head coach Steffen Baumgart doesn’t believe that the club need additional signings despite a number of injuries, as reported by Bild

During Köln’s last test match against Belgian side Lommel SK (5-0) last week, Steffen Baumgart’s side suffered injuries to both Luca Kilian (23) and Kristian Pederson (28). It’s predicted that both players will be out of action for around six weeks.

This raised the question of whether the billy goats will look into the transfer market for further reinforcements. According to Baumgart, the answer is no.

The head coach told Bild: “Due to the two injuries, we are not planning any additional commitments. We are positioned broadly enough to compensate for the shortfalls internally.”

More than likely, it will be Jeff Chabot (24) who will step into central defence in the absence of Kilian this weekend. Nikola Soldo and Ellyes Skhiri could also come into the starting 11 if needed.

Pederson was not a regular starter himself but rather a substitute for club captain Jonas Hector. If Hector needs replacing, Baumgart can look toward Benno Schmitz or Kingsley Schindler if needed.
