Real Madrid working on move for Kai Havertz

According to BildReal Madrid are working on a move for Chelsea forward Kai Havertz after it was announced that Karim Benzema will leave the club when his contract expires.

A deal for Havertz will likely happen quickly as Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and president Florentino Perez are both big fans of the German international. Madrid had previously shown interest in Havertz before he moved to Chelsea in 2020 for €80m.

Chelsea are in a position where they need to sell players not only due to Financial Fair Play but also due to their squad being too large. With a lack of Champions League football, they also need to sell players to make up the money, with Havertz being a prime candidate. According to transfermarkt, Havertz is valued at €60m.

Last season, Havertz was Chelsea’s top goalscorer with seven goals in 35 games in the Premier League as Chelsea finished 12th. The 23-year-old will have to increase his output if he is to replace Benzema who is second on Madrid’s all-time top scorer list behind Cristiano Ronaldo.
