According to Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig have now reached an agreement to sign Lyon defender Castello Lukeba for a reported €35m.
It was reported that a previous bid of €26m was immediately rejected by Lyon but the improved offer has proved tempting enough for the French side to sell their academy graduate.
The centre-back is set to be the new replacement for Joško Gvardiol, who has departed for Manchester City in a €90m deal.
What does Castello Lukeba offer RB Leipzig?
Lukeba played 38 games for Lyon last season and played in every game for France at the under 21 European Championship in the summer.
The 20-year-old possesses individual qualities that make him a very promising ball playing defender and is also left footed, making him a very suitable replacement for Gvardiol.
Lukeba averages a pass completion rate of 90% and likes to progress with the ball by carrying it out from the back.
Like many young defenders, he can over commit in a tackle but fortunately has great recovery pace in order to get him out of trouble.
Lukeba has great potential and will be one to look out for as Leipzig will aim to develop him into a world class defender in the future.
