Edin Terzić believes Borussia Dortmund are on the right track ahead of season opener

We’re just hours out from Borussia Dortmund playing their first competitive fixture of the season and head coach Edin Terzić believes that his squad are on the right track heading into their DFB Pokal game against Schott Mainz.

“The boys are making a good impression and are on the right track. We want to take the next step on Saturday in the cup,” said Terzić. However, he did confirm that Thomas Meunier, Julien Duranville, Gio Reyna and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens would miss the game but that the latter too are close to returning.

There’s still a question mark over Karim Adeyemi and Felix Nmecha. On Nmecha, Terzić said: “It doesn’t look too bad, but we still have to wait for the exact diagnosis.” Adeyemi meanwhile has been unable to train due to a muscular injury and as earlier reported, it’s likely that Dortmund won’t take any unnecessary risks with the German forward.

As a head coach, Terzić knows what it takes to win the DFB Pokal, having won the competition in 2021 as an interim head coach. “In the past we have often experienced how great a DFB Cup final in Berlin can be and how great it can be to lift the trophy in the air,” said Terzić, ahead of Saturday’s game. “We’ve always said we want to play for titles.”

Borussia Dortmund have had somewhat of a successful pre-season with wins against San Diego Loyal and Manchester United before a draw against Chelsea, conceding in the final minute of normal time. BVB then performed well against a strong Ajax side that resulted in a 3-1 win in their final pre-season friendly.
