RB Leipzig enter the race for Manu Koné

Bild is reporting that RB Leipzig have entered the race for Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Koné.

When asked about his transfer business in his new role at RB Leipzig, sporting director Max Eberl said: “In fact, I’m already very much into the matter again and have a lot of player names in my head.” This comes after the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Josko Gvardiol, Konrad Laimer and Dani Olmo all could possibly leave in the coming years meaning Eberl would have to rebuild. Bild says one of the players involved in this rebuild is Manu Koné.

Eberl had originally never mentioned signing players from former club Gladbach, when he was asked previously he said: “There is no agreement. That’s why I won’t say now that I won’t get a player from Gladbach.”

The 21-year-old was signed by Eberl from Toulouse in 2021 and could be a replacement for Laimer who is set to join Bayern Munich. The issue for Leipzig is Bayern and Chelsea have also shown interest in Koné.

Koné has played 14 games for Gladbach in the league this season and has made himself central to the team along with Julian Weigl. His form has prompted the idea that Gladbach could receive a record fee for the midfielder which would eclipse the €45m they earned for Grant Xhaka in 2016.
