Konrad Laimer reaches verbal agreement with Bayern Munich

As reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Konrad Laimer is set to join Bayern Munich in 2023 on a free transfer from RB Leipzig after reaching a verbal agreement with the Bavarians.

The central midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season and will follow in the footsteps of former manager Julian Nagelsmann as well as former teammates Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer.

Laimer will receive a long-term contract at Bayern lasting until at least 2027. The Austrian had plenty of suitors with Bayern, Chelsea and Liverpool all interested in the midfielder. Laimer was linked to Bayern last summer but decided to stay at Leipzig this season.

The 25-year-old joined Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg in 2017 making 167 appearances across all competitions. However, this season Laimer has been out with a Syndesmotic ligament tear which sees him out until January 2023. The last game he played for Leipzig was their 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund which was Marco Rose’s first game in charge.

This adds more depth to the Bayern Munich midfield meaning Laimer will challenge Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Ryan Gravenberch, and Sabitzer for a position in midfield.
