Konrad Laimer rejects Chelsea in favour of Bayern Munich

As reported by Christian Falk, RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer has rejected a move to Chelsea and would prefer to join Bayern Munich in 2023. The Austrian has a verbal agreement with Bayern, but nothing is agreed.

Laimer (25) has a contract with RB Leipzig until 2023 and the Bundesliga side wanted to sign the combative midfielder to a new contract. Over the summer, it emerged that Laimer was the dream player of Julian Nagelsmann and with planning for the 2023/24 season already taking place, Bayern’s coach may just get his desired player.

In an attempt to sign Laimer with one-year remaining on his current deal, Bayern Munich submitted an offer of €24m including bonuses for the Austrian, which was rejected by Leipzig in the summer.

Chelsea made a loose enquiry about the possibility of signing Laimer, who also attracted interest from Liverpool. With a contract expiring in the summer, Laimer can sign an agreement after January 1, 2023.

Laimer has missed much of the current season with an ankle injury, playing just 508 minutes across all competitions this season but has returned to training at RB Leipzig.
