Bayern Munich react to Lucas Hernandez injury

Speaking directly to Kicker, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić has reacted to Lucas Hernandez’s injury sustained during France’s 4-1 win against Australia in their World Cup opener. The Frenchman went down holding his knee in the build-up to Australia’s goal in the 9th minute. After the game, French doctors confirmed that the defender has torn his cruciate ligament in his right knee.

On Wednesday morning Salihamidžić commented on the situation and what it means for Bayern: “Of course we are all shocked and very much regret it. But Lucas is a fighter and will come back strong.”

When asked if Bayern will look for a replacement in the transfer market, Salihamidžić was adamant in his response: “We won’t do anything in winter.”

Hernandez is due to leave Doha and return to Munich for an operation before starting his rehabilitation. This is the second injury to a Bayern player while on international duty. Sadio Mané ruptured his tendon whilst with Senegal and isn’t expected to return until early March. Everyone at Bayern will be hoping for better fortune as the tournament progresses.
