Preview | Bayern Munich vs PSG: Will Julian Nagelsmann opt for João Cancelo to combat Kylian Mbappé?

Bayern Munich host PSG in the second leg of their Champions League tie and they currently hold a 1-0 lead after Kingsley Coman scored the only goal in Paris.

At the weekend, Bayern beat VfB Stuttgart 2-1 having taken the lead through a Matthijs de Ligt long-range effort, they would then double their lead through Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the second half before Juan Perea scored for Stuttgart to create a tense end to the game. Since the PSG first leg, Bayern had also comfortably beaten top four contenders Union Berlin 3-0 and lost 3-2 to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

PSG are unbeaten since they lost to Bayern. At the weekend, they evaded a shake against Nantes as they fended off a comeback to win 4-2. The weekend before they beat rivals Marseille comfortably 3-0 and before that they had to mount a comeback of their own to beat Lille 4-3 at home.

The big question for Bayern is if they will start João Cancelo. The right-back spent the full 90 minutes on the bench against Stuttgart and had a brief 12-minute cameo against Union and has not been able to prove himself to be defensively sound under Julian Nagelsmann who has preferred Josip Stanišić and with Benjamin Pavard being suspended Cancelo maybe the only choice against Kylian Mbappe. Whether Cancelo can be trusted against Mbappe, could be the big decider in this tie.

Since the first leg both teams have shown their weaknesses, Bayern have shown that they can be lacklustre at times and make it easy for teams as seen against Gladbach as well as in parts against Stuttgart, a team that possesses more firepower such as PSG can take easily advantage of that.

While for PSG their defence is notoriously weak and with Coman, Choupo-Moting and Jamal Musiala all in good form it should be easy for Bayern to expose, as they did at times in the first leg.
