Piero Hincapié extends Bayer Leverkusen contract until 2027

Bayer Leverkusen Sporting Director Simon Rolfes has this morning confirmed that Piero Hincapié (21) has signed a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2027.

“We always want to check with player early on that we have long contracts to be in a strong position,” Rolfes told Bild. “This is also the case with Piero. That’s why we’ve extended his contract until 2027.”

Hincapié’s previous contract ran until 2026 and for several months, Bayer Leverkusen tried to extend the contract of the Ecuadorian defender. Only now have they reached an agreement.

Per the report, the contract doesn’t include an exit clause.

In January, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur submitted a verbal offer of €25m to Bayer Leverkusen for Hincapié, which was rebuffed. With a contract until 2027, Die Werkself can command a significant fee before selling the Ecuador international.

A wanted player in today’s market, Hincapié has played 23 games across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen this season and has established himself as a key player under Xabi Alonso, both in central-defence, but also at left-back when used in a back-four.
