Oliver Glasner reacts to Eintracht Frankfurt defeat against Napoli

Speaking after Eintracht Frankfurt’s 2-0 defeat against Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday night, SGE head coach Oliver Glasner reacted to the disappointing defeat against the Serie A leaders.

“A very disappointing but deserved defeat,” said Glasner. “We played very well for 25, 30 minutes, but we didn’t capitalise on some good situations. Then we made too many mistakes of our own making and a team of this quality will exploit that.

“We had chances later on, but Napoli have incredible confidence and deserved to win. We’re disappointed right now, but we won’t bury our heads in the sand.”

Eintracht Frankfurt started well with both Jesper Lindstrom and Randal Kolo Muani having chances in the opening 20 minutes, but the tie changed after Aurélio Buta brought down Victor Osimhen in an attempt to clear the ball. Kevin Trapp pulled off a heroic save to deny Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from the spot, but Osimhen capitalised after 40 minutes to give Napoli the lead.

Eintracht were unable to gain a foothold and their path to the Champions League Quarter-Final was made far more difficult when Kolo Muani was shown a red card just before the hour mark. Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo then gave his side a 2-0 lead, and a deserving win.

Eintracht travel to Naples on March 15.
