Official | Manchester United sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Austrian international was wanted by both Manchester United and Chelsea, who enquired about him on transfer deadline day. After discussions with both teams, Sabitzer arrived at Munich airport and boarded a plane for Manchester.

The midfielder will sign a loan deal with no option to buy at the end of the season.

United had been looking for reinforcements following an injury to Christian Eriksen, who is expected to miss around three months.

Sabitzer has featured in 15 of Bayern Munich’s 18 Bundesliga games this season but has started just eight, and that was in the absence of Leon Goretzka who was injured at the time.  Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann opted for Ryan Gravenberch against FC Köln and in the absence of Goretzka against Eintracht Frankfurt, Nagelsmann opted for Thomas Müller and Jamal Musiala ahead of Joshua Kimmich, who acted as a single-pivot.
