Official | Chelsea sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig

Chelsea have announced the signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.

The deal has long been in the making but now it’s finally official. The Frenchman agreed to join Chelsea before the end of the season despite his contract with the Saxons running until June 2026.

The forward had a €60m release clause in his contract which the manager at the time, Graham Potter, had triggered. The Frenchman joined RB Leipzig for €13m from PSG in 2019 and has played 159 games across all competitions, scoring 64 and creating 51.

Last season, Nkunku finished joint-top goalscorer alongside Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug and helped Leipzig lift the DFB Pokal for two consecutive campaigns.

The transfer is Leipzig’s record transfer sale, beating Naby Keïta’s €60m move to Liverpool in 2018.

Nkunku’s move is now likely to pave the way for German international Kai Havertz to leave Chelsea and head across town to Arsenal. It’s reported that the forward will leave for around €75m, signing a five-year deal with the reds.
