Arsenal are set to sign Chelsea and Germany forward Kai Havertz, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The expectation from Arsenal’s point of view is to get the deal in principle complete this week just after the international break. A five-year contract has already been agreed by Havertz, they’re just waiting for the official green light from Chelsea.
Arsenal will pay around €75m, around £65m in British Stirling for the 24-year-old who will make the short distance across London to the red side of the city.
Bayern Munich had previously shown interest in Havertz as an option for the number nine position, however, they were informed that talks with Arsenal were too advanced. It means it is very unlikely that Bayern will move late on to hijack the move.
Havertz joined Chelsea in 2020 from Bayer Leverkusen for €80m but has failed to live up to the promise he had shown at Leverkusen. In a poor season for Chelsea where they finished 12th, Havertz was the club’s top goal scorer with nine goals in 47 matches for the team.
His time at Chelsea will be remembered for his goal in the Champions League Final against Manchester City which secured Chelsea their second Champions League.
