Niclas Füllkrug to have release clause in new Werder Bremen contract

Sport Bild reports that Niclas Füllkrug is to sign a contract extension at Werder Bremen but the new contract will contain a release clause.

Füllkrug is set to extend his contract at the club until 2026 which was originally set to expire in 2025. However, unlike his previous contract, this one will have a release clause and if the clause is activated before the end of this transfer window and it is an offer that appeals to both Füllkrug and Bremen, then he can leave the club.

Fiorentina have previously shown interest in Füllkrug and due to the departure of striker Arthur Cabral, the club may reignite their interest in the 31-year-old once the release clause has been inserted into his contract.

The 31-year-old is a key figure for Bremen on and off the pitch. Not only did Füllkrug finish last season as the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer but this summer he has also been promoted to vice-captain of the team.
