Manchester United have first bid rejected for Benjamin Pavard

Bild and Sky Germany report that Manchester United have had their first bid for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard rejected by the club.

The price of the deal is currently unknown but it has previously been reported that Bayern want around €30m, due to the 27-year-old’s contract expiring next summer, so it is likely that United’s offer was not close to that fee.

Pavard has already reached a verbal agreement with United over a move so it is now up to the clubs to reach an agreement on a fee. Where Pavard will play at United is unknown. The Frenchman wants to play in his preferred role of centre-back at his new club but it is possible that Pavard could also be played as right-back.

Although Pavard started for Bayern yesterday in the Super Cup against RB Leipzig, the 27-year-old was hauled off at half-time with a relatively poor performance, while his replacement Noussair Mazraoui was a considerable improvement. While the arrival of Kim Min-Jae at Bayern also suggests that there is no place for Pavard in the centre of Bayern’s defence from now on.
