Luca Pellegrini’s loan at Eintracht Frankfurt to be cut short

Bild is reporting that Luca Pellegrini’s loan at Eintracht Frankfurt will be cut short and he will return to his parent club Juventus this month.

Pellegrini has had a difficult time in Germany and has struggled to adapt to everything. He has played 14 matches for Frankfurt since his loan move. The 23-year-old’s last chance to impress Oliver Glasner will be in Frankfurt’s winter training camp in Abu Dhabi.

If Pellegrini does leave, Frankfurt will look to buy a new defender. This season has seen Kristijan Jakic play as a central defender due to the lack of cover there. This is something Glasner does not want to be permanent as he would like Jakic to move back to his defensive midfielder role.

This need for a new central defender also comes after Jérôme Onguéné is set to rejoin RB Salzburg on loan after he had signed from them on a free transfer in the summer. The current centre-back options Frankfurt have are Evan N’Dicka, Tuta, Makoto Hasebe, Almamy Touré and Hrvoje Smolcic.
