Lars Stindl is one of the most underrated players – Christoph Kramer

Lars Stindl equalised in the 90th minute to secure a point for Borussia Mönchengladbach against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday night. Speaking after the game, Christoph Kramer believes his teammate is one of the most underrated players.

“He’s an incredibly good player and not just because of his goals,” said Kramer. “He’s maybe even one of the most underrated players – what he’s done for the club and also as a friend, I would say.”

Stindl joined Borussia Mönchengladbach from Hannover in 2015 for €3m and has somewhat become a cult hero at the club. During his time with Die Fohlen, the 34-year-old has scored 83 and created 61 in 270 games across all competitions. Primarily a midfielder during his time at Hannover, Stindl has played an advanced role at Gladbach.

But after eight years at the club, Stindl will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season. The German attacker will re-join former club Karlsruhe on a free transfer on a one-year contract.

Stindl’s equaliser against Bayer Leverkusen means that Gladbach will finish no lower than 11th with one game remaining. They could yet finish above rivals Cologne should they beat Augsburg on the final day of the season, and Cologne lose to Bayern Munich.
