Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug struck his ninth Bundesliga goal of the campaign in eight games in the Green-Whites’ 2-0 victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon. Returning to the Weserstadion – on loan from West Ham United – in the summer, the 33-year-old is in the form of his life.
Füllkrug has now scored in seven straight Bundesliga games, opening his account for the season on Matchday 2 against RB Leipzig. Werder Bremen’s 3-1 win over the Saxony club kickstarted their current run of form, which sees them unbeaten in six league games heading into Matchday 8.
He then struck in the 1-1 draw against Cologne before netting in the 3-2 victory against Augsburg. Two-nil down, he then scored the equalising goal in the second minute of stoppage-time against former club Borussia Dortmund, before a brace at Mainz the following weekend.
Struggling at West Ham and on loan at Milan at the turn of the year, Füllkrug is proving that returning to Bremen was the perfect decision. Playing with a smile on his face, the veteran goalscorer continues to enjoy a prolific run as Daniel Thioune’s side charge up the table.
