2. Bundesliga leaders Hertha Berlin moved nine points clear of second-placed Wolfsburg after their resounding 3-0 victory over Kaiserslautern, who had conceded just four goals in nine games before their Matchday 10 clash.
Sebastian Grønning struck either side of the break to double his tally for the campaign before Oluwaseun Adewumi – on loan from Championship side Burnley – completed the rout on the hour.
It means that the Old Lady are now unbeaten in their ten 2. Bundesliga fixtures (nine wins, one draw) this season as they look to secure a return to Germany’s top flight following their relegation in May 2023.
Speaking after Saturday’s win, head coach Stefan Leitl laded his team’s performance. “It was an incredibly intense match with some really tough challenges,” he explained. “We gradually found our rhythm. From the second goal onwards, we completely dominated the game.
“Overall, we put on a fantastic away performance, never let up, and remained focused throughout. A huge compliment to my team for ending the midweek fixture so positively.”
