Heidenheim interested in signing Jérôme Boateng on a free transfer

Sport Bild reports that Heidenheim are interested in signing former Bayern Munich centre-back Jérôme Boateng on a free transfer.

Heidenheim have reportedly already held a meeting with Boateng’s consultant over a potential move but Boateng is still open about his future.

The newly promoted side were looking for a centre-back in the summer and a move for Boateng would add much-needed Bundesliga experience to Heidenheim’s defence which is predominantly made of players who have spent most of their careers in the 2.Bundesliga or lower.

Boateng has been training with Bayern Munich’s second team after the club decided against signing the 35-year-old due to his ongoing court proceedings after they were hit with an injury crisis in defence. The prospect of signing Boateng was mooted against after the recent injury to Matthijs de Ligt but coach Thomas Tuchel shut the rumour down.

In their first-ever season in the Bundesliga, Heidenheim finds themselves a respectable 13th, four points clear of the relegation places after beating early-season surprise VfB Stuttgart 2-0 on Sunday evening.
