Florian Wirtz set for Bundesliga comeback

Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is set to make his Bundesliga return in January, as reported by Kicker

The 19-year-old has been out for nine months after tearing his ligament in a 1-0 victory over FC Koln. Since then, the youngster has been in undergoing intense rehabilitation and finally began solo training again towards the end of 2022.

On Saturday, the creative midfielder will take part in his third test match as Bayer takes on Italian second-division side Venezia F.C. Since his return to team training head coach Xabi Alonso described Wirtz as a “newcomer.” He’s not wrong, either. When coming back from such a bad injury, a player’s return can feel like a brand new addition to the side. What’s more, his presence will surely give his teammates a boost.

As per the Kicker report, Wirtz’s father and advisor stated: “Florian is in good hands with Bayer until the 2024 European Championship.”

Wirtz could make his Bundesliga comeback as early as January 22nd when Bayer takes on Borussia Mönchengladbach in their first game back after the winter break.
