Five players not called up to the Germany squad

Bild reports, that three additional players from Germany’s World Cup squad have not been called up for the March friendlies.

Two players who had not been called up was confirmed earlier on in the week as Thomas Müller and İlkay Gündoğan would not be part of the squad. Gündoğan was not called up as he is expected to become a father in the coming days, while Müller will only be available on call for the national team.

The other players are Antonio Rüdiger and Niklas Süle who have not been called up as Hansi Flick opts for new options in the defence.

While Sky Germany reports that Leroy Sané is the third, the reason for the 27-year-old’s absence is unclear, but it could be due to his poor run of form.

Germany will play two friendlies during the international break. The first will be against Peru in Mainz, then they will play Belgium in Köln.
