Feyenoord reject RB Leipzig’s initial bid for Lutsharel Geertruida

Sky Germany reports that Feyenoord have rejected RB Leipzig’s first bid for their right-back Lutsharel Geertruida.

The first offer for the 22-year-old was below what the Dutch champions are hoping for. Feyenoord wants more than €20m for Geertruida, which could mean that the total cost for the right-back could be in the region of €25m-30m.

Geertruida was a key part for Feyenoord as they went on to win the Eredivisie while also reaching the Europa League quarter-finals, the right-back played 41 times scoring three and assisting two.

The 22-year-old can not only play as a right-back but also as a centre-back. Leipzig’s move for Geertruida likely signals the potential end to Lukas Klostermann’s time at the club. Both can play in the same position but the Germany international saw a lack of game time last season.

Leipzig have already completed five signings this summer. Before the window opened they had agreed to signings for Benjamin Seško and Nicolas Seiwald from Red Bull Salzburg. While this summer they have signed Christoph Baumgartner from Hoffenheim, Fabio Carvalho on loan from Liverpool and Leopold Zingerle from Paderborn.
