Felix Nmecha ruled out until the end of the year

Despite dazzling in the Champions League and sitting at the top of Group F, Borussia Dortmund have stumbled in the Bundesliga. With the winter break fast approaching, BvB find themselves in fifth place, ten points behind the league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

However, during a press conference on Thursday morning, Edin Terzić confirmed that Dortmund’s woes are set to continue. The head coach revealed the club’s latest injury concerns regarding the newly acquired Felix Nmecha:

“Felix already had to cancel the international trip. Unfortunately, the situation couldn’t improve, so we’ve now decided to give the whole thing a regeneration and a break. It will no longer be used this calendar year. We hope to have it up and running in early January. No surgery is necessary. But it’s an unfortunate spot – he needs complete rest.”

It is an injury that could not have come at a worse time for the former Wolfsburg midfielder. After initially struggling to adapt to life in Dortmund, Nmecha was finally starting to prove why the club put their faith in him this summer with two phenomenal performances against Newcastle in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, Die Schwarzgelben will have to rely on their squad depth to make it to the New Year with daunting ties against Leipzig and Leverkusen coming up in the league, as well as another trip to Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal. As well as this, they will have to overcome AC Milan and PSG in Europe if they are to make it to the knockout stages; a crucial three weeks awaits BvB.
