VfB Stuttgart set for busy January transfer window

All eyes will be on the future of Sehrou Guirassy at VfB Stuttgart in the winter transfer window but regardless of the future of the 27-year-old, the Swabians are expected to have a busy transfer window, according to Kicker.

Four players are expected to be allowed to leave the MHP Arena in January, most of the players are on the hinges of the squad and are not included in Sebastian Hoeneß’s plans. Roberto Massimo, Genki Haraguchi, Lilian Egloff and Thomas Kastanaras are deemed surplus to requirements at Stuttgart.

The only player who has any form of future at the club is Kastanaras, the striker is currently playing for Stuttgart II in the Regionalliga and he cannot see any game time in the senior squad due to the performances of Guirassy and Deniz Undav. The 20-year-old is likely to be loaned out so he receives more playing time at a higher level than the Regionalliga.

Haraguchi only joined Stuttgart a year ago from Union Berlin and was favoured more by former manager Bruno Labbadia. However, due to his age he no longer wants to sit on the bench and there has been rumoured interest of a return to Japan with Lukas Podolski’s former team Vissel Kobe.

Massimo’s contract expires in the summer and it is up to him whether he wants to see out his contract at the club or leave for a fee in the winter. While Egloff’s contract also expires in the summer and despite featuring at times for the first team a change of scenery would be good for his career as a future beyond June at Stuttgart is unlikely.
