Bundesliga Predictions | Round 23 – Borussia Dortmund to maintain their 100% record?

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Bochum vs Schalke

My game of the weeks is the other Revierderby between Bochum and Schalke. We often forget that the Ruhr is about more than just Dortmund against Schalke. There was even a time when Schalke against Bochum was considered the bigger Revierderby as Dortmund struggled in the 1980s. Nowadays, of course, it is Schalke, Germany’s third biggest club by membership that is third in the pecking order. But things are slowly looking up for die Knappen as they are now undefeated in five games and a win against Bochum would see them go even on points with their rivals in the relegation battle. This will be a typical relegation scrap, a battle for survival all in the background of this being a massive derby anyhow.

Manu’s Predictions:

  • Borussia Dortmund 2-1 RB Leipzig
  • Union Berlin 2-1 Köln
  • Mainz 2-0 Hoffenheim
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-2 Freiburg
  • Bochum 0-1 Schalke
  • Augsburg 1-2 Werder Bremen
  • Stuttgart 0-4 Bayern Munich
  • Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Hertha Berlin
  • Wolfsburg 0-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Stefan’s Game of the Week: Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig

My game of the week has to be Dortmund v RB Leipzig on Friday. Two of the best teams in European football, fighting it out to see who has the credentials to call themselves the genuine title contenders alongside Bayern Munich.

Stefan’s Predictions:

  • Borussia Dortmund 2-2 RB Leipzig
  • Augsburg 1-2 Werder Bremen
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach 0-2 Freiburg
  • Bochum 1-1 Schalke
  • Mainz 2-1 Hoffenheim
  • Union Berlin 2-1 Köln
  • Stuttgart 0-3 Bayern Munich
  • Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Hertha Berlin
  • Wolfsburg 2-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Scores after MD22: Manu – 133, Stefan – 117.
