Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko suffers injury against Werder Bremen

Youssoufa Moukoko (18) lasted just 29 minutes against Werder Bremen on Saturday afternoon. The German forward went down following a challenge from Leonardo Bittencourt, forcing Edin Terzic into an early substitution. Speaking after Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win, Terzic gave a brief update.

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t look that good,” said Terzic, via Patrick Berger. “We still have to wait for the diagnosis.”

Moukoko was awarded with just his third Bundesliga start of 2023 following the return of Sébastien Haller, who started against Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg. To give the French-Ivorian a rest, Terzic opted to start with Moukoko ahead of Julian Brandt, Gio Reyna and Marco Reus in a four-pronged attack.

With 10 goal contributions (6 goals, 4 assists) in 17 Bundesliga games this season, Moukoko has established himself as a key player under Terzic this season but has somewhat struggled since signing a contract extension until 2026.

Moukoko is without a goal in 2023, and didn’t feature at all in the midweek DFB Pokal win against Bochum. How long the 18-year-old will be out for remains to be seen.
