Borussia Dortmund weigh up move for Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer

As reported by Bild, Borussia Dortmund are eyeing up the possibility of signing Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.

After falling short of the Bundesliga title last season to Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern, Die Schwarzgelben have also had to contend with a torrid window. Deals for Iván Fresneda and Edson Álvarez have fallen through, leaving BVB with more work to do.

However, in Marcel Sabitzer, Dortmund have identified a world-class midfielder with a proven Bundesliga track record. He is also on Die Rekordmeister’s transfer list for this summer, with the reigning German champions hopeful of securing €15m for the Austrian international.

Sabitzer spent the second half of last season on loan at Manchester United, however, with the English side preferring to look elsewhere for midfield options, Sabitzer has found himself back with the Rekordmeister. After struggling to assert himself in a star-studded Bayern midfield, the 29-year-old now faces added competition from fellow Austrian Konrad Laimer.

Therefore, a move looks to be the best option for Sabitzer if he is hopeful of securing game time for the upcoming campaign. Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl is looking to strengthen the side ahead of their US tour that starts on Monday, which means that a deal for the Bayern man could be done imminently.
