Benfica in pole position to sign Daichi Kamada

Benfica are in pole position to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada, according to Bild.

Kamada is available on a free transfer after the Japan international decided against signing a contract extension beyond the summer at the Bundesliga side. Kamada rejected a new three-year deal at SGE worth around €3m per season, and also rejected an offer from Borussia Dortmund that would see the player earn a reported salary of up to €6m. If Kamada was to remain in the Bundesliga, only Bayern Munich would have appealed to him.

Spanish side Atlético Madrid had also shown an interest in signing Kamada but with an expected upheaval at Benfica, the Portuguese side are now in pole position. In the summer, SLB reached an agreement with Kamada but were unable to find an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kamada has 18 goal contributions (13 goals, 5 assists) in 40 games for Eintracht Frankfurt this season, and has become an integral player for the Hessen club over the last 24 months.
