Angeliño unlikely to return to RB Leipzig

There is no place in RB Leipzig’s squad for Angeliño next season, according to Kicker.

The Spaniard joined Hoffenheim on loan with an option to buy for a reported €20m with TSG’s David Raum heading in the opposite direction on a permanent basis. RB Leipzig spent €26m on Raum who despite not being able to live up to expectations, remains in Marco Rose’s plans for next season.

“David [Raum] has a positive attitude and an extraordinary will to win and he has good self-reflection,” said Rose. “There are still areas in which he can improve further and he’s working very diligently on them.”

Since Germany’s elimination from the World Cup, Raum has withdrawn from the media a lot as he looks to re-find his form that made Leipzig spend such a significant fee on the left-back.

During the 2021/22 campaign, Raum had 16 goal contributions (3 goals, 13 assists) for Hoffenheim but this season, has just two assists for RB Leipzig.

But with Leipzig backing Raum, that means Angeliño is unlikely to return to the club. Sitting 14th and just four points above Stuttgart who occupy the relegation playoff, Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga status is yet to be secured with just five games remaining. And it’s unclear as to whether they would pay the €20m option fee for the Spaniard.
